Your parent’s results and records at UMass Memorial

How to see your parent’s myChart account with your own login, how to get copies from the records office, and how to keep the results in one place.

From UMass Memorial Health’s own pages, checked on November 3, 2026. Steps can change, so follow the official links.

See your parent’s myChart account

Hospitals call this proxy access, or family access. You sign in with your own login and switch to your parent’s account, so you never need their password. At UMass Memorial: the patient sends the invitation from their own account.

  1. 1Your parent opens the Friends and Family Access page in myChart.
  2. 2They send you a proxy invite.
  3. 3You must be at least 18.

Get copies without the portal

From the Office of Health Information Management (HIM).

  1. 1Download the medical records release form (authorization for the disclosure of protected health information). It comes in several languages.
  2. 2Your parent fills it in, ticks any sensitive record types needed, signs and dates it, and names you to receive the records.
  3. 3Send it by email (MedCtrMR@umassmemorial.org, with photos of both sides), fax (508-334-9717) or mail to the HIM Department in Worcester.
  4. 4Choose an abstract (medicines, allergies, lab results, tests, visit report) or the entire record. The abstract costs less.
Family members:
Use the release form if you are requesting records on behalf of someone else. A health care proxy can request only after the doctor has activated the proxy, and only for continuing care.
Cost, as the hospital states it:
There may be fees associated with certain types of requests. Fees are based on state and federal guidelines. A fee for photocopies may apply per Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 111, Section 70.
Time, as the hospital states it:
Please allow us up to 30 days to process your request.

Your parent’s rights

  • Your parent has a legal right to copies of their own records.
  • When your parent asks, the hospital must answer within 30 days. It can take 30 more days once, if it explains why in writing.
  • It can charge only a reasonable fee, based on what the copy costs to make.
  • These rules also cover an electronic copy your parent asks, in writing, to have sent to you.
