See your parent’s Sharp account (Sharp app or sharp.com) account
Hospitals call this proxy access, or family access. You sign in with your own login and switch to your parent’s account, so you never need their password. At Sharp: the patient sends the invitation from their own account.
- 1App: your parent taps the menu at the lower right, goes to Sharing, then Manage family accounts, then Invite friends or family.
- 2Website: your parent selects the menu at the upper left, goes to Sharing, then Manage friends and family access, then Invite friends or family.
- 3Your parent picks full access or scheduling and messaging access.
- 4You get an email to accept or decline. Access starts as soon as you accept.
Get copies without the portal
From the Medical Records (Health Information Management).
- 1Print the Authorization for Use or Disclosure of Protected Health Information form. Your parent fills it in, signs it and names you.
- 2Choose the Sharp hospital or hospitals and the dates of care. Sharp only releases what is named.
- 3Email the form to shc.records@sharp.com, or drop it off at a walk-in records location, weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- 4Questions: 858-541-5400.
- Family members:
- Anyone requesting records for someone other than themselves who is not the legal guardian uses the paper authorization form. Third party requests should be emailed to shc.records@sharp.com.
- Cost, as the hospital states it:
- Please note there may be a charge of $6.50.
- Time, as the hospital states it:
- Please note medical records requested by patients may take up to 15 days to complete.

Your parent’s rights
- Your parent has a legal right to copies of their own records.
- When your parent asks, the hospital must answer within 30 days. It can take 30 more days once, if it explains why in writing.
- It can charge only a reasonable fee, based on what the copy costs to make.
- These rules also cover an electronic copy your parent asks, in writing, to have sent to you.
Keep the results in one place
Vita Health Coach is an iPhone app that keeps each family member's results in their own file and explains each new result in plain words. Once you have access, add your parent, tap Connect a hospital and search for Sharp. Paper copies work too: take a photo of each page.
