See your parent’s NYU Langone Health MyChart account
Hospitals call this proxy access, or family access. You sign in with your own login and switch to your parent’s account, so you never need their password. At NYU Langone: the patient sends the invitation from their own account.
- 1Your parent signs in to MyChart, opens the Menu and goes to Sharing, then Share My Record.
- 2They select Friends and Family Access, then the option to share access with a family member or friend.
- 3They enter your details, agree to the terms and send the invite.
- 4You open the email link, sign in to your own MyChart account and enter your parent's date of birth to accept.
- 5If you are not an NYU Langone patient, you must contact the MyChart Help Desk to get an account.
Get copies without the portal
From the Health Information Management.
- 1Print the authorization form (an online e-sign version is also on the page). Your parent fills it in, signs it and names you.
- 2Add a copy of photo ID, as the page asks.
- 3Email it to the records address for the hospital where your parent was treated (Tisch, Kimmel and Perlmutter: DL_ROITisch@NYULangone.org), or mail it to NYU Langone Health, Health Information Management, 1 Park Avenue, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10016.
- Family members:
- You must sign the form before submitting it, and the hospital can only process forms from NYU Langone patients. The page says caregivers can get a family member's records with the proper consent through portal proxy access.
- Cost, as the hospital states it:
- Patients and healthcare providers are not charged to obtain copies of medical records. There are fees for attorney requests.
- Time, as the hospital states it:
- With this method, it may take several days for you to receive your records.

Your parent’s rights
- Your parent has a legal right to copies of their own records.
- When your parent asks, the hospital must answer within 30 days. It can take 30 more days once, if it explains why in writing.
- It can charge only a reasonable fee, based on what the copy costs to make.
- These rules also cover an electronic copy your parent asks, in writing, to have sent to you.

Vita Health Coach is an iPhone app that keeps each family member's results in their own file and explains each new result in plain words. Once you have access, add your parent, tap Connect a hospital and search for NYU Langone. Paper copies work too: take a photo of each page.
