Your parent’s results and records at Mount Sinai

How to see your parent’s MyMountSinai account with your own login, how to get copies from the records office, and how to keep the results in one place.

From Mount Sinai Health System’s own pages, checked on November 3, 2026. Steps can change, so follow the official links.

See your parent’s MyMountSinai account

Hospitals call this proxy access, or family access. You sign in with your own login and switch to your parent’s account, so you never need their password. At Mount Sinai: the patient sends the invitation from their own account.

  1. 1Your parent signs in to MyMountSinai and opens the menu.
  2. 2They choose Sharing Hub, then the family member, close friend or caretaker option.
  3. 3They pick ongoing access to their account and complete the invitation.
  4. 4You must already be a Mount Sinai patient to receive access.

Get copies without the portal

From the Medical Records Department (HIM/Medical Records).

  1. 1Download the form for releasing records to a third party (MR-201). Your parent fills it in, signs it and names you.
  2. 2Tick the Mount Sinai sites where your parent was treated and the records you need, such as discharge summaries and lab results.
  3. 3Mail it, or bring it in person, to the Medical Records Department at the site where your parent was treated. Bring a government photo ID if you go in person.
  4. 4If the records are needed for urgent care, say so and they will speed it up.
Family members:
A third party can obtain a patient's medical records with patient authorization. If the patient is incapacitated, the patient representative must enter their relationship to the patient so the hospital can determine authority.
Cost, as the hospital states it:
There are fees for patients and attorneys. A fee of $6.50 may be charged for electronic record delivered in electronic format. A per page fee may be charged to deliver in paper the electronic record ($0.07 /page) or the paper records ($0.12 /page). No fee for urgent in-person requests.
Time, as the hospital states it:
We will respond to requests for copies within 30 days; once the request is received, we generally respond within 7-10 business days.

Your parent’s rights

  • Your parent has a legal right to copies of their own records.
  • When your parent asks, the hospital must answer within 30 days. It can take 30 more days once, if it explains why in writing.
  • It can charge only a reasonable fee, based on what the copy costs to make.
  • These rules also cover an electronic copy your parent asks, in writing, to have sent to you.
