Your parent’s results and records at Cleveland Clinic
How to see your parent’s MyChart account with your own login, how to get copies from the records office, and how to keep the results in one place.
From Cleveland Clinic’s own pages, checked on November 3, 2026. Steps can change, so follow the official links.
See your parent’s MyChart account
Hospitals call this proxy access, or family access. You sign in with your own login and switch to your parent’s account, so you never need their password. At Cleveland Clinic: the patient sends the invitation from their own account.
- 1Your parent logs in, opens Sharing Hub and selects family member, close friend or caretaker.
- 2They choose to manage ongoing access, select Invite someone and complete the invitation.
- 3You open the email link and log in to your own MyChart, or sign up first. You do not need to be a patient.
- 4Enter your parent's date of birth to accept. Three wrong tries denies access.
- 5By default you cannot change anything in the account unless your parent allows it.
- 6If your parent cannot invite you, a court-appointed guardian or power of attorney sends a paper caregiver form with those legal papers. This takes one to two weeks.
Get copies without the portal
From the Health Information Management.
- 1Download the Authorization for the Release of Medical Information form. A Spanish form and an online version are on the page.
- 2Your parent fills in all fields, signs and dates it, and names you to receive the records.
- 3Fax it to 216.587.8043 or mail it to the address on the form.
- 4Questions: Health Information Management, 216.444.5580.
- Cost, as the hospital states it:

Your parent’s rights
- Your parent has a legal right to copies of their own records.
- When your parent asks, the hospital must answer within 30 days. It can take 30 more days once, if it explains why in writing.
- It can charge only a reasonable fee, based on what the copy costs to make.
- These rules also cover an electronic copy your parent asks, in writing, to have sent to you.
Keep the results in one place
Vita Health Coach is an iPhone app that keeps each family member's results in their own file and explains each new result in plain words. Once you have access, add your parent, tap Connect a hospital and search for Cleveland Clinic. Paper copies work too: take a photo of each page.
